I know you have all been waiting with bated breath to hear the results of the giant Garage Sale held in Perth, Western Australia to raise money to purchase basic food and medicine and other essentials for the Zimbabwe Pensioners.

So you will be pleased to hear that it was a HUGE success and over $7,000 was raised. This included all monies raised from the Raffle, the Sausage Sizzle and the Sale of the Donated goods plus Cash donations.

It all started in June when emails advising about the Garage Sale and asking for donations of goods were sent far and wide including to friends and contacts overseas who then also forwarded emails to friends back in Perth.

Many of these people overseas sent donations directly to the Zimbabwe Pensioners Support Fund and others donated funds to The Rhodesian Association of WA for forwarding to ZPSF.  So, besides managing to raise a substantial amount of money at our garage sale, we also generated much interest in the plight of the Pensioners of Zimbabwe with the result that even more funds were raised indirectly. I have been notified of over $1,200 raised in this manner and of course there would be so many more people who donated who would not necessarily advise me.

The Honesty Raffle was very successful with the 1st prize of a Hamper of goods donated by African Heritage being won by Rob Ferguson and the 2nd Prize of a $50 Voucher – also donated by African Heritage – was won by Alan Brown.

In an event like this, so many people are involved and sincere thanks must go to the people who put up our signs around town, those who passed emails on to friends, all the people who donated such a bountiful load of goods, to all the Helpers who gave up their time and expended so much energy, and of course to all the people who pitched up to the garage sale over the weekend and actually bought the goods and filled our ‘Donation Box’ with cash.

Unsold goods have now been donated to several local charities.

On behalf of the Pensioners of Zimbabwe, the Rhodesian Association of Western Australia says THANK YOU so very much to everyone.
